45 Lolita Questions

I'm currently recovering from a small cold, so I thought I'd entertain myself by answering old questions from the EGL Livejournal and watching some crime docs.

1.      Please tell us your Hand Name (name that’s used ONLY in internet.) and hometown.

- Bunny Blushes! I'm from the East Coast of the United States

2.      About how long is your history as a Lolita?

- I began wearing lolita on Nov 2, 2019

3.      What first motivated you to do Lolita fashion?

- Mostly, the fact that I finally had real adult money to spend on my hobbies, I always wanted to wear lolita, but on a student's budget, I opted to wear himekaji and romagyaru until I could make the transition, haha.

4.      After knowing Lolita fashion, have you had any time-gap or resistance till you actually started to be Lolita?

- 10 or so years, it's hard to keep track of time, but I definitely discovered gal and lolita in middle school. I was lurking blogs and YouTube channels from 12-13 and eventually made my lolita debut at 23!

5.      Please define your Lolita style as much as possible. (eg. gothic Lolita, sweet Lolita, white Lolita…. Etc).

- I wear both gothic and sweet, though in the last couple of years, I've focused more on expanding my gothic wardrobe. I would say that when it comes to gothic, my style is soft and romantic. While with sweet, it's pretty typical, haha. Lots of bunny ears and pastels.

6.      About how many Lolita friends do you have?

- I have 4 good friends who also wear lolita, and some online acquaintances. Overall, I'm incredibly introverted and spend a lot of time doing things on my own, so I've never kept a large circle. All the friends I've ever made have kind of just..picked me up like a stray cat LOL.

7.      What is the best thing about doing Lolita?

- If you want a simple answer, I get to wear beautiful clothes and enjoy community.

If we were to go a little deeper, it's that lolita gives me a chance to express a kind of femininity that typically isn't allowed to black fems. Especially not darkskinned ones. I love creating this self-indulgent world and pursuing my own vision of beauty.

8.      Conversely, what's the worst thing?

              - Shoe sizing and invisible zippers.

9.      Which Lolita Brands do you like?

-  I like a lot of brands, but I buy from AtePie the most. Estrellas, BTSSB, AP and Sheglit are also favorites of mine.

10.  What was the first Lolita item that you’ve owned?

Pooche Candy Pot (lolibrary)

11.  What is the “must have!” Lolita item?

- I feel like a coord isn't complete without a head accessory. It just looks..wrong.

12.  Do you wear drawers?

- I do! Bloomers are cute and really easy to make.

These long bloomers were a fun project and great for winter

13.  Do you have any favourite Japanese music?

- My taste is pretty much the same regardless of language; the top genres have always been hip-hop, R&B, pop, and rock, so I can go from Yuki Chiba to Wa-suta, to Kamijo lol.

Nujabes, however, has always been at the top of my JP faves. May he rest well.

14.  Where do you particularly visit as Lolita?

- Cafes and hobby shops are my favorite places to go on days off if I'm not loafing around at home.

15.  About how many times per week do you dress as Lolita?

- Typically, once or twice a week.

16.  Please tell us about one embarrassing episode from the time when you were
just beginning Lolita.

- Fortunately, I have yet to make a complete fool of myself in lolita.

17.  What's hairstyle and color that you think Lolita would suite the most?

- Any color works; you just need to put some effort into styling it.

18.  Have you ever thought of stopping Lolita? The reason?

- Nope. We locked in

19.  Please tell us your heart's bible as a Lolita. (anything like a book, magazine, CD, idol...)

- I really like making matching accessories and outfits for my 10cm nui..

20.  Do you own a doll? Tell us your feelings about her intensely!

- Does he count?

If not, I've been thinking about getting a Smart Doll for a few years now.

21.  What kind of make-up do you wear when you wear Lolita clothes?

- My makeup is simple, but I like drawing on lashes and playing with namida bukuro. I would LOVE to try a PaintedbyEsther look, though! Her work on darkskin is so dolly.

22.  Have you ever secretly changed clothes in a train station bathroom on Lolita day-out?

- No, public transport doesn't exist here.

23.  Are you composed when doing Lolita all by yourself?

- Yes, I was a lonelita for a while. I think everyone should be okay going out to do things alone; it's hard, but necessary.

24.  How much do you spend in your Lolita clothes& accessary monthly?

- Typically $400 every other month or so, but again, I mostly buy from AtePie so that can actually grab you quite a few items.

25.  What is the most expensive Lolita thing you've bought so far? How much was it?

(lolibrary)

- If you include SS fees + the travel expenses for them to travel from Osaka to Tokyo, and finally shipping to me in the states it was around $500. Crazy part is that AP dropped the Milky Planet re-release right after this, cold world we live in.

26.  So far about how much has the expense been for Lolita goods?

- I don't quite understand this one, but if it's asking about my TOTAL expenses in lolita..

Not answering that, LOL

27.  Lolita outfit really costs money. How do you raise money to cover the cost of
Lolita?

- I'm employed, unfortunately.

28.  Have you ever bought from an online store? If so, please tell us its good

and bad points and some advice for the future. If not, please tell us why not.

- I buy exclusively online, except for brands occasionally visiting local cons. The obvious downside of buying online is that you don't get a chance to see what the clothes will look like. My advice would be to look for reviews and avoid sketchy sites.

29.  Even if you sort of want to keep it a secret, please clandestinely tell us
about a private manufacturer that is the best.

- Estrellas!!! I love their tights so much.

30.  Is there a brand and/or an item that you think, "I could never get it! But I unreasonably want it!"?

                              (lolibrary

- Such a gorgeous OP! I love detachable sleeves.

31.  What do you think about people who only do Lolita at music-lives or cosplay?

 - I think lolita is a fashion that's meant to be worn in your regular life, but ultimately it's not my business what people do with their clothes.

32.   From what age to what age is it acceptable to do Lolita? Do you think that there's a state in which someone must graduate from
Lolita? (you can answer as ‘never graduate’)

     - There's no age limit on enjoying your hobbies. I don't intend on stopping, lolita has become a part of my daily life.

33.  Is there a Lolita fashion or behavior that you think "I don't want Lolitas to do this!" about?

- We probably shouldn't be committing crimes.

34.  Is there something you think "Lolita has to be this way!" about?

- Lolita is a really vast fashion, so there's a lot you can do and experiment with as long as you keep the general silhouette intact. I do think something on your head is non-negotiable, though.

35.  While doing Lolita, has something changed from earlier than you did Lolita?

- I've spent nearly all of my 20's with lolita, so my views and thoughts on the fashion have changed as I interacted with more people, did research, and evolved as a person. I've also become quite passionate about good ero styling.

36.  Do you go to school/work as Lolita?

- Nope! I have no desire to do so, either.

37.  Do you wear Lolita clothes as casual wear?

         - I often wear my cardigans, cutsews, purses, and shoes in "normie" outfits. It's a good way to make sure my wardrobe items are being used frequently.

38.  Do you have a boyfriend (or husband)? Do you understand each other? (I think she meant “Does he understand you (as lolita)?”)

- I've been with my high school sweetheart for almost 12 years, we're inseparable, and have many of the same interests. There was a period where the attention lolita attracts made him feel a little uncomfortable, but now he couldn't care less.

I often ask for his input on my coordinates and future purchases. He actually chose the colorway of my latest AtePie purchase! My favorite memory, though, is when we were watching a BTSSB show, and he had some very passionate opinions about the designs.

39.  What do the people around you think of your doing Lolita? Do they accept it?

- Everyone in my family has their own nerdy hobbies, and they have always encouraged me to be myself. Absolutely no one was surprised when I turned up looking like a cake topper. My eldest sister often comments on my IG, it makes me really happy!

40.  What kind of Lolita is who has impressed you the most up until now?

- My close friend, Ako. I deeply admire her resolve to remain dedicated to lolita even after moving across the world and becoming a mother. She's the most beautiful person I know.

I also really admire lolitas who decorate their homes in a matching aesthetic. My ideal space has very minimal furniture and is covered in houseplants, lol. Not very cute.

41.  Have you ever made your own Lolita clothing or/and accessories? If so, what was the best item that you’ve made?

- I dabble in handmade! My velvet OP is a favorite

I used to be a manager at JoAnn Fabrics (rip), so most of my pay went into snagging fabrics and trim right off the trucks. I miss that place a lot, even though the last year was really rough on us mentally.

42.  If you have an ideal Lolita outfit or coordination, please tell us.

- This is currently my ideal kind of coord. Soft, flowing, and romantic.

43.  Is there a motif that you think “this is a simple of Lolita”?

- I think a classic black and white coordinate just screams lolita.

44.  Would you want to dress your children as Lolita?

- I don't want children, but the thought of a frilly mini me walking around is very cute. A familial slay.

45.  What's your image of the ideal Lolita?

- Someone living unapologetically dedicated to lace and frills.
